GLICODE™: Learn Coding with Pocky
GLICODE™ is a free educational app developed by 江崎グリコ株式会社 that turns every packet of Pocky into a bite-sized coding lesson. This app is designed to teach children about the principles of coding in a fun and engaging way. By arranging Pocky in different sequences, users can learn three basic coding fundamentals: sequences, loops, and 'if' statements.
The app features Glico's mascot HUG HUG, who embarks on a mission to spread happiness in an imaginary world. Users must help HUG HUG navigate through various levels by learning different coding functions. The goal is to reach a child in need of a smile.
To play GLICODE™, all you need is a regular packet of Chocolate Pocky. As the levels progress, they become more challenging, testing your coding skills. The app uses your phone's camera to capture a picture of your snack sequence, which is then executed as code by HUG HUG.
GLICODE™ has been adopted by the "Popularization of Programming Education for Young Segment" program supported by the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications in Japan. Elementary school teachers use this app as a teaching tool to introduce programming basics to young students.
